In 1973, I used to listen to MIT's radio station (at the time, the call letters were WTBS). A weekly program, called Just Another Radio Show used to feature audio clips from Monty Python. I don't remember the host's name (I think it was Vanderbrook, or Vandenberg). He suggested a letter-writing campaign to WGBH in Boston to bring Monty Python to America. He used to beg people every week to write letters to the local Boston PBS station. I think that might have been the spark that brought Python to America.

Hi, Chap. First time I saw MP was on WNET ( Public TV Channel 13 in NY.) 1973. Their reputation had preceded them though. I had heard of them before. Do you remember Marty Feldman? Who had a short lived show prior to MP. Terry Gilliam's animations were a big part of his show and I remember literally rolling on the floor laughing with my brothers at these animations. That he subsequently turned up as a member of MP was just another reason to look foward to seeing them and to seek them out. Rolling Stone magazine, which was virtually an underground newspaper at the time, was one way to keep track of such developments.

Marty Feldmans Comedy Hour. Great Show. He also played Igor in "Young Frankenstien".

To tell the truth, we are completely mad. we are inmates of a Bengali psychiatric institution and we escaped by making this skin out of old cereal packets...

Yes, one look at Feldman's bulging eyes looking in two directions at once was enough to set you off laughing.( The result of some unfortunate childhood disease is my understanding)He cheerfully capitalized on his bizarre looks as a performer, whilst being a great comic writer. Too bad he also died young at age 49.

I have just dicovered Monty Python within the last month and became an instant fan. I'm already saving my money for the entire Flying Circus on DVD. I love those guys (especialy Michael Palin :)

I am one of the eight score blondes and brunettes at castle anthrax, all between the ages of 16 & 19 1/2, it is a lonely life, bathing dressing, undressing, and I have ben a wicked, naughty girl and I must be punished. You must tie me to a bed and spank me and afterwards, The Oral Sex!
