There is a sketch in The meaning of life where he it trying to find the fish. A most elusive fish, and so on. Why is this funny. I get everything else. This joke goes right over my head. Could someone enlighten me? Thanks.

Someone once told me that if you look at the "find the fish" scene carefully, it is shot with a wierd type of lens that distorts the edges of shot - its called a "fish eye lens" and that is apparently where the fish is.

Maybe someone would like to check this out - I haven't got access to any of the movies at the moment as I'm on holiday.

Its just a random scene that has nothing to do with anything, thats what makes it so funny.

I have never seen a fish in the scene. the fish lens thing might be the right answer, but I do not know. I would like an official site devoted to this kind of thing and could not find anything. thanks for your help.

The scene is funny as a stand alone weirdness, but I think it would get so much better if there was a fish in the scene.

That moment in the meaning of life was so bizarre it was funny. Although I question whether the Pythons did drugs when writing some of their sketches. They were the Beatles of the comedy world.

Well it was the seventies so maybe they were on drugs [:0] or maybe they're just naturaly a little psychotic, that would explain it too. [:D]

speaking of drugs, did anyone see Terry Gilliams "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"? Man that is one tripy movie, but Johnny Depp was excellent in it. so it might be worth checking out.

In regards to the find the fish scene, I believe the camera used for that scene was using like a fish eye lens so that everything looked as if you were looking through a fish's eyes and everything. It's really weird, but it's hilarious. I love Terry Jones' really long arms in that scene, it's so funny [:D].

I also think that the sketch is just random and that there is no actual fish in the background. i think British comedy is just like that. jeez, there are a lot of things i don't understand in their movies.
