The monks are chanting "Pie Iesu Domine. Dona eis Requiem." (Pronounced "Pee-ay yay-doo dominay. Dona eyis requiem")

Translated from Latin it means "Merciful Lord Jesus. Grant them rest."

It is a typical phrase from a Catholic funeral or requiem mass.

Why do they sing those particular words and then wake themselves in the head with a board? I guess it isn't supposed to make any sense, like a lot of other Monty Python stuff that doesn't make sense but is still hilarious.

Its to do with the fact that monks punish themselves by living apart from society and not talking, and eating feck all etc. in the belief that this makes them closer to God. I can remember Michael talking about it in the commentaries on the DVD.

Who are you who are so wise in the ways of science?

Doesn't the Catholic Opus Dei cult still practice this?

I get it. And no offence to any Catholics here, but I personally find Catholics to be a little strange. I don't know why, maybe it's because of the fact that I went to a Catholic high school for 2 1/2 years, but still.

I remember talking to a friend of mine, and she told me that in a Pentecostal funeral they don't mourn the death of a loved one, they celebrate, that the person got to heaven. And I thought, how morose.
I know it's off subject but I didn't know how to folllow the thread, I was baptized catholic but it was only like pushing myself to be ina religion, I don't know.

Yeah, I think my family is Prodestant, and I went to a Catholic high school for 2 1/2 years, so whenever we had to do journals in religion class, I would contradict the teacher about what we were learning. I'd be like, "There's no such place as Pergetory". It was pretty interesting.

Pity really, that some of the derivatives of the Spainiards, don't really folow the religion they wanted for us, I find it very interesting it has such a haunting quality about it for the history it has. The Jewish religion has it's interesting points but to me, since I haven't seen Jews in my area, only Jehova witnesses Protestants, Pentecostals, Catholics, Mormons, Evangelics and whatever other sect someone can conjure up, I've always been more kin of the Catholic than the Jewish. It angers me sometimes that people don't take it seriously anymore it's money and who's higher over who? Hollier than thou, you know?

The Catholic church is digging themselves into a huge hole now because of all these cases where all these Catholic priests are sexually abusing boys and everything. At least that is what I think.
