Hello, I'm new here.

My name is Zsuzsanna, I'm 24. I'm from Germany, but I'm studying Translating in beautiful Salford [B)] near Manchester at the moment.
I was actually looking for Monty Python Forums. Maybe someone can help me here. Although this question would be more for German natives.

I read somewhere that there are 2 translations of the script of The Holy Grail into German. I couldn't find out the name of the translator of the first version. I'd actually like to compare the two translations.
(Isn't it a good topic for an MA dissertation?)
So, if there's anybody out there who knows that...I would be very grateful.

Wow, that sounds interesting - it's a good topic for translation studies, because humour is notoriously difficult to translate.

I know that the translator of the 1994 Haffmans script of 'Monty Python und der Heilige Gral' is Karsten Singelmann, though that may be the name you know already. The film is also sometimes translated as 'Der Ritter der Kokosnuss', so you could have a search under both those names.

I came across this while looking - believe it or not - for Czech translations of Monty Python. As it happens I'm studying Czech literature and film at Manchester!

Wow, it's a small world!

I didn't expect the term "Translation Studies" in someone's reply.
And you're in Manchester as well! [:)]

Oh, I've searched a lot in google! Pointless.
And most of the time there are only pages where Monty Python DVDs are sold.

Now, I've heard something about an "early version" of the script.
Well, I don't know, whether this is what I'm looking for or not. I had to ask back, I hope someone will be able to find it out.
I've got no idea whether this "early version" has ever been published or not...
