I just watched this sketch again the other day from series 4, where Michael Palin as a demented cop lectures Graham Chapman on the history and subtleties of helmets on London's Westminster Bridge and I'm always amazed at the logistics this sketch must have entailed.

Is Palin actually directing traffic in this sketch? Or was the whole bridge closed off and all the cars are in on it? Was an actual policeman just out of camera range stopping the traffic? Some of the passersby are clearly not extras as they are gawking at the proceedings.

Damn funny though. One of Palin's many exquisitely
bizzare characters

The pythons did a lot of strange things like that, the bridge was not closed, I can assure you of that, my guess is they had a police man directing traffic.
