I believe she was popular across the pond, as they say in england.

You have to remember that the show is 30+ years old, and the characer that Idle was playing was in her late 30's early 40's.

She is considered an "oldies" artist now-a-days, probably why you haven't heard of her.

Regarding Leapy Lee,
He appears at the Fountain Bar in Magaluf,Majorca on Monday and Thursdays at 1030pm,I know this as I was there last Thursday (23rd Sept 2004),when he performed for an hour to a packed bar.After his set he happily posed for photographs with fans.after about 1/2 hour he came to our table and sat & chatted for about 20 minutes with our group.

I dont know if its just me, but I could have sworn that Leapy Lee was a women, or maybe Boddies is reffering to a different Leapy Lee that has no relation to the leapy Lee that we were disscussing.
