Sometimes linking seems to go wrong somehow. Also I can't make a link out of a normal word, I can only link by posting the URL. Where does it go wrong?

i can't tell you how it goes wrong, but i can help with your "links out of normal words" problem.

when you want to put in a link, but not have the full url showing, it should look like this:

Code:
[url=www.google.com]Google![/url]

of course, the url and word can change, but that's basically how it works.

a thought on "linking gone wrong": it could be just a problem with the website itself, and not necessarily the link. i don't know for sure, but it's a thought.

*edit*

having actually now seen the post in question, i think i understand why it didn't work.

i believe your problem was the fact that you were trying to link to a ZIP file instead an HTML file or other such thing.

hmmm...

*another edit*

further review (and some screwing around w/ your post) has shown it to be not your fault, but garret gilchrist's.

you can blame him for putting an apostrophe in the url, which screwed it up on here.

so, problem solved. i hope.

and btw, and your post is completely intact.

Perhaps it was the brackets in the first tag?

Yes, it was the quotation marks on the url. Bad quotation marks! Bad brackets! No candy for you today!

no no, the brackets were fine! nothing wrong with the brackets, they were perfectly good brackets.

it was just the *expletive* apostrophe.

Only the last one works.

i say you can't blame the brackets because of improper BBCode usage. it isn't their fault. you can go straight to the FAQ and learn all about it. that's how i know as much as i do.

Well other boards had no problems with the brackets. Your server is obviously quotation-mark deficient, or bracketly challenged.

so you're saying that on other boards you can use whatever sort of brackets you want, and it will work no matter what?

Well, in forums very similar to this one I could put brackets around the URL in the first tag and it would work.

Obviously it isn't important. It's just one of those things.
