IIRC I saw a version of the Holy Grail when I was a kid, that had another intro than the one that's usuallly on tv/ dvd.

It starts with similar hickups as the more familiar version, but the intro end's with an "advertisement" for a restaurant that's "only a 5 minute walk from this theatre"/ or a string of restaurant commercials with an ending like "and afterwards see Monty Python's Holy Grail only 5 minutes walk from this restaurant".
The actual film starts with a scene of King Arthur knighting someone with a hill in the background with a castle on top. The castle/ cardboard mockup falls over revealing that's it's a fake, Arhtur looks up and stabs the one he just knighted.

Does this seem familiar to anyone? ( I hope I'm not confusing this with another movie.)

Is this version available for private sale and does it have a name?

best regards,

Marc Brandes

Aren't those things on the special edition DVD?

The King Arthur stabbing someone was a trailer rather than an alternate ending. They do a big heroic thing about knights then right at the end the castle falls down.

Exactly. It is the trailer.
It is on the DVD of course and on some VHS tapes you can see the trailer before the film itself starts.

No, it definately sounds very much exactly without a shred of doubt like the trailer confused with the beginning of the film.

The first release of Holy Grail in the UK(on brent walker video) had the trailer at the start (with the seventh seal pie in face etc) and the missing 24 seconds...and the organ music at the end went on forever. The print was also very dark with letterbox that had about 6 inches of screen.

I recall seeing the film at a drive-in when it was new. The intermission film was longer and that nauseating organ went on forever. Actually, it was about 10 minutes.
