hey all!
Just thought i'd start a new topic for the hell of it! Don't you just love Michael Palin? He's just so cute!
As we all know, he's from Yorkshire (Whoot!). He lived there for about 22 years i think, so i would assume that he would have a thick sheffield accent. Did he change it for tv? I'm just asking because i find English accents interesting since i am english. lol.
You know the actor Sean Bean? He's from Sheffield and lived there about the same length as Mike and has a strong yorkshire accent.
Just wondering if anyone knows if Mike changed it on purpose or if its just coz he has been living down south for so long. :)

Could also be because he's from a diiferent part of Yorkshire and accents vary even within counties.

you don't think that you have an accent until you meet people with a really strong one from somewhere else. also one time i went to america and had people (ok one mad person!) say they loved my accent cos i was british! hehe. i like michaels accent. i don't think he phased it out. i think he can put it on really strong when he wants to - ie eric olthwaite- but other than that its just normal.

eg. i can put on a really strong liverpool accent, but yet i don't actually live in liverpool. or actually anywhere near it. so i think he just emphasis' it occasionly for show. but either way. we love him.

I always wondered that myself. And how come whenever they do a movie in Britain and they want Australians (and there are only about 40 million of them in the UK), they will cast a British person who couldn't do an Australian accent if he was taking lessons from Chips Rafferty or Bryan Brown?

The only British people I have ever known to do a good Aussie accent are the Pythons and the Two Ronnies.

Mike and Sean Bean are both from Sheffield, Yorkshire. I can distinguish North English Accents pretty well and accents within Yorkshire. I am from Yorkshire you see and grew up (and still live) in Australia so i find Northern English accents fasinating!
