When John Cleese left before the fourth season, a key element of the Python group was missing. The six episodes of that season are the only ones I haven't seen (also the only ones I don't have on DVD). Did this have a seriously negative effect on the show, or was it still great. I need to know!

If you're going to split hairs, I'm going to piss off.

The last series was by far the poorest series, and it did suffer from John Cleese not being there, but to be honest I thing the Pythons were beginning to run out of steam anyway - even in season 3, when Cleese was still there, there were an aweful lot of sketches that were misses rather than hits.

I think that the show was hurt by the lack of John Cleese.

There is some funny stuff there in that last series, but it just didn't have the magic anymore.

I think that it was hurt, but the episodes were still funny for the most part, they just seemed to be missing a little something special... (Music starts playing)

Alright, alright, cut that out.

I too think that it was hurt, but on the other hand with Cleese missing Terry Gilliam got the opportunity to appear more often as an actor

Monty Python without John Cleese is like a dose of clap. The arrival may give us pleasure...but afterwards it's just a pain in the dong.

Good God. What a statement

Anyways, after Cleesey left, the show was still funny, but I think it lost some of the 'edge' that it had with him as a part of it.

I agree, I don't think it was quite 'on its toes' as it was while he was part of it. I mean, yes it was still funny, but lacking some of its original Cleese charm and wit.

its like comparing MOL to the other python movies.

the 4th series is still funny, just not hilarious like the other series-es.

MOL is still funny, but not hilarious like the other python movies.

thats my opinion anyway.
