how sweet NOT to be Chinese!
there was a famous Russian general ( check in your history books! ) who didn't respect short people. he used to say that a short man had his head too close to his a**... I'm 5'4"...luckily...

Yay, a fellow tall girl How old are you? Are you still growing? I agree, Graham was quite handsome btw, but Michael is my favourite... *cuddles Michael*

How tall are you, Dennis?

i am 16. and yes i have stopped growing thankfully. but people do annoy me when they do the 'ooh aren't you tall' gig.

and don't worry dennis, there's height in you yet. boys tend to keep growing after girls have stopped. so i reckon you'll soon be looking down on us.

In the commentary on my Holy Grail dvd John says he's 6'4, and I read an
interview on some website where Eric says he’s 6'2. So Graham had to be at least 6'3, I don't know about the others.

heeey!!! ok its 2:03am and I can't sleep so i'm on here writing this.

I MET TERRY JONES TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!

he is SO totally adorable!!
its official. i'm on cloud nine lol

we (suzie and i ) got there early and thought we'd sit in the front row next to the reserved seats (they were the only 2 seats left in the front row) and we waited for about 10 mins while the lecture theatre was filling up.

Suddenly Suzie poked me really hard and i yelped 'OWW! WHAT!?' and she was making funny faces at me and jerking her eyes over to the right going 'he's here!'

sure enough he was

he's a lot... 'less fat' sounds harsh... um.. 'more trim' in real life than he looks on camera - aaand about 5 foot 8 so he's not all that short either.

He got up on stage and did his talk about 'medieval misconceptions' which was actually really really interesting because it covered a lot of stuff i've been doing at uni so i kinda knew what he was on about.

He's a very animated speaker - he can't keep still for more that five seconds and was bouncing around the stage for well over an hour waving his arms around, cracking jokes, blinding himself with the overhead projector light, doing silly voices and generally being exactly the Terry I'd hoped he'd be.

I was a bit worried initially that he might be one of those uppity historians who drones on and on in a voice that says they'd rather be somewhere else(like most of my lecturers) but he was so sweet, funny AND interesting!

After having had four lots of two hour lectures every Tuesday for the past 6 months and getting used to having the feeling that a whole year had already gone by when in fact only 5 mins had elapsed, it was refreshing to feel completley the reverse with Terry - time really does fly when you're having fun!

He's clearly passionate about the medieval times and his enthusiasm is totally infectious as he gets really excited over the most random things which you wouldn't neccessarily have noticed if he hadn't pointed it out.

He did have a 'question time' but nobody asked anything which was a bit of a shame, and i didn't ask anything because i was too chicken  and didn't actually have anything worth asking about and didn't want to make an eejit out of myself.

He signed books afterwards too and when suzie and i asked if we could have a photo taken with him, he practically leapt out of his chair to oblige bless him.... only my camera decided to be temperamental and not work. he asked if it was 'one of those electric things' (bless him) and when i said 'yes' he laughed and said 'i hate those' so we went off to one side to sort it out and let him get on with his books. he appointed suzie 'the photographer' coz after we asked for a photo, loads of other people wanted one too! lol so they kept handing her their cameras to get her to take the pics - in the end, Terry was saying 'just give your camera to suzannah over there, she's the chief photographer'
finally got my bl**dy camera to work and he stuck around after everyone else left to ask if i'd got my 'wonderful machine to work yet' so we could get a picture with him.

4 things i found out about terry up close:
1) he is really cuddly - he put his arms round us for the pictures and he is just like a big warm human teddy bear
2) he's got really big hands and REALLY long fingers!!! i know that sounds random, but i always thought i've got huge hands and long fingers. My entire shoulder totally vanished into the palm of his hand in my photo!
3) totally random but: he's got hayfever! because suzie and i went to the chaucer exhibition in canterbury (which he hasn't been to yet - shame on him! we told him he had to go) and it smelled funny (read: 'atmospheric'), we asked him what he thought the medieval times would have smelled like ( i know. wtf?!?) he said he imagined 'it would smell pretty much the same as now, only I wouldn't be able to smell anything because i've got hayfever!'
4) he is such a SWEETIE!!! he's jovial, he makes a point of having a five minute chat with EVERYONE - not like some people who magically turn into silent conveyor belts when a book and a pen are shoved at them, he is just so obliging and NICE! not at all up-himself as i feared he might be.

ok tiredness has suddenly hit and i'm freezing so i'm going to go to bed now

ps: does anyone know if Terry has a brother about the same age or a little younger like 50+? there was a guy who came with him and sat next to us, and he looked a lot like him too, but thinner! and then left with him. only doubt i have is because he got Terry to sign a book for him, so i dunno.. i was thinking if he WAS Terry's bro, then surely he A) didn't really need a signed copy of a book, and b) could have got one any time... *shrug*

I am officially jealous!!! I once saw Eric Idle live in show, but I didn't get to meet him :( . I'm still jealous though. That sounds really cool.

oh wow! i'd love to see eric live! he's so sweet!!!

I met Terry again last night!! that man is too nice for words! i got a bit tipsy on the free wine, but he didn't seem to notice thank god

Got to the place early so went into a cafe, sat down with a newspaper and was busy getting depressed over all the bad things that are going on in the world, when the door opens, i look up, and who should be standing infront of me? lol spent about 10 mins trying to peel my chin off the floor! Alan Eireira (sp?) thought i was a waitress though which was not so cool.

lol i doubt it! i saw him at the beginning of february last time, and he's been doing so many talks since then i doubt he'd remember my ugly mug! lol he might remember me in august because i don't think he's doing any more talks until then - plus i asked alan something terry thought was a good question, and him something that made a big impression on him (all explained below)

you want details? i shall give ye details:)

um... well i got there early and so went to the cafe next door to kill the time with an orange juice and a paper, when i look up and who should walk in and order a cappucino?... did the biggest double take in my entire life! took be about 10 mins to scrape my chin off the floor! lol then alan ereira came over and asked me if i was working there.... (?!) dunno how he got that idea - i was sitting there in my uni rugby shirt whith an umbrella, oranje juice, cake and newspaper!

Went into the tiny bookshop (muswell hill) and milled around for about half an hour - everyone was talking to alan and terry looked a little left out... he was sort of wondering around on his own for the most part, clinging onto a glass of water and his glasses and trying to look busy!
I sat down on the chairs and waited and terry kept smiling at me - i think he felt sorry for me because i was all on my own whereas everyone else seemed to know everyone else. He did his talk about the barbarians (which was basically just condensing his entire tv show into an hour and a halfish talk) with lots of funny voices and waving his arms around in the air etc - he can't keep still for five mins - its insane! lol fun to watch though - he's very enthusiastic about everything, and gets really excited over the most random things lol but thats all part of his charm ;)
I'm, not sure why alan was there cos he didn't actually do ANYTHING during the talk - just sat there and signed books afterwards.
after the talk, i got me book signed and had a chat with him and alan; asked alan why, if the romans hated the greeks so much, they adopted their underworld - then terry pipes up going 'their UNDERWEAR?!' heh heh
then after alan answered 'no terry - underWORLD' terry was like 'Ohhhhhh! actually - thats a really good question! that makes no sense at all - why would they want to spend all eternity in a place created by their arch enemies?' (if you're interested to know alan's answer; it was basically that the romans couldn't accept that there were any other religions or gods apart from their own so they just claimed credit for everything the others did 'yes - zeus.. he's our god. we made him. and hera. yes heracles/hercules is one of ours too' etc etc) , Then I told Terry that reading his fairy tales had given me just the kick up the backside i needed to start writing my own, so thanks for that - and then asked him if he'd be cool with me borrowing one of his characters for one of my stories and he was so chuffed! bless - he was like 'REALLY?!? oh that's great! which one? (me: the slow ogre?) the *in a funny voice* SLOW OGRE?!! fantastic! of course you can! of COURSE you can!!!!'

heh heh if alan and everyone else wasn't there i would have just picked him up and hugged the life out of him! lol

so.. yeah! that was my evening folks! :D

and a pretty good one at that! (despite the rip off £18.99 for the book!)
