I didn't find the Parrot sketch overly funny of itself, but I did enjoy John's delivery VERY much!

I must agree. in that sketch, John Cleese is brilliant.

The plain absurd nature of the 'explanation'?

i liked that, too. but sometimes i think it wasn't meant to be absurd:
maybe he wanted to say "mister" but 'swallowed' the "ter" because he had a cold (couldn't breathe through his nose or something).

what am i doing?? analysing a MP-sketch??? no no no!
i claim: it's pure absurdity and nothing logical!! :P

the funniest version of the parrot sketch i've ever seen is the live one in the secret policeman's ball - john is trying to make mike corpse (laugh and come out of character) by doing silly voices and a sort of morris dance with the parrot - hitting it against his foot and chucking it around in the air etc while mike is just wetting himself laughing! bless him! i love mike!

I havent seen that...... wheres it from..... i sounds like i need to see it...

I uploaded it on youtube in case anyone wants to see it. :D It's hilarious, just wait til Mikes breaks up and starts laughing! Even John starts to laugh at one point, pity that the camera is not looking on him, but Michael is adorable, he's really wetting himself, like fogchicken said.

I love it too, I think it's their best peformance of this sketch that I've seen. Maybe Michael cracking up has much to do with it, but I mean, John was absolutely mad that day  How could he do that to the poor polly?

Gambolputty, that's the secret policeman's ball DVD, there's the just one DVD with the guys involved talking about it, which is the one I have, and then, there's another one with all the performances included(there were several of these performances along the years, all held for amnesty [url]international. :D

25th anniversary edition

John Cleese was very involved in this, which proves he's not the greedy bastard some people and he himself sometimes wants us all to believe he is.
