Terry Gilliam's new movie has just come to Finland and I was just wondering, should I go see it or not. The reviews I read weren't really that flattering, they said that the movie was too weird (if that is possible). So if anyone has seen it, please tell me what you think.

Of course it might never come to my hometown... But that's a completely different issue.

It's rather wierd and, in my opinion, not one of TG's best. It depends on how fond you are of dark and disturbing.

A sharply negative opinion here about an otherwise brilliant director:

Hate to say it (because we all love the usual Gilliam favorites) but
Tideland cannot be recommended at all. I'll give credit to the first hour,
for the setup, but after then it is worse than just being pointless.
Mr Gilliam made a film with topics that should not be filmed,
and the end result is absolutely revolting. I obtained a poster of
Tideland before the release, and I'm not sure that I'll even keep it.

Personally I doubt he'll ever be able to get another project,
but please save your time and money for that one instead, if it happens.

It all seems really weird to me. I haven't seen it so I can't really judge it. But, I think you have to decide for yourself. An opinion is always an opinion, there's no one who always thinks exactly the same like someone else. If I would say 'that's a piece of sh*t', it must not force you not to go see it. I'm going to see it someday, but I have no clue how because I haven't seen anything about it here.

I really want to see it and I´m thinking of getting it on DVD. I love Gilliams artwork. I think his artwork is unique, and it really reminds me on Tim Burton in some way. I saw Jodelle Ferland in "Silent Hill" and I think she´s a really good actress, so she really fits into the movie!

I'd quite like to see it. Despite the poor reviews, because then I can decide for myself! Because otherwise I'd never really know whether I'd think it good or not...

Yes? So if you think you should see it - do so!

I saw once an interview with Terry on BBC about this film, but I haven't seen it myself

I have seen Tideland and found this movie just great, though very strange. But after other Gilliam films I was prepared for his specific style. Tideland is very pessimistic movie, different from some Terry`s films, but so stylish, touching and personal. Jodelle Ferland is brilliant and other actors are very good too. Yes, film is scary sometimes and hopeless, but Gilliam exactly shows psychology and inner life of the little girl.
I advise everyone who likes other Gilliam movies to watch Tideland, really interesting though not optimistic and rather hard to understand.
