The Pythons did sketches in German, Spanish, French, Italian and this-and-that-and-the-other; but are they fluent in any of these in real life?

No. They're not.

They said that when making the German Episode they just said lines without knowing the meaning. Well they knew the meaning, obviously since they wrote it, but you know what I mean.

They got it translated and memorized the german words.

That's weird, since i study like five languages. English people must think they're the center of the universe or something. Of course i like english very much, and i'm probably gonna study that in the future, and english literature would be nice too... :D

Sad to say that in the vast majority of cases, English speaking people ARE the laziest when it comes to languages. Expecting everyone else to speak their language, but not bothering to learn the native languages of countries they visit.

I at least attempt to speak a foreign language. I once had the experience of when on holiday in France, struggling through with my limited French vocabulary, only to have the shop assistant speak back at me in English with an American accent. :?

That was obscure.

I once met an Englishman (I think he was from Birmingham) who made an honest effort to learn modern greek.

He wasn't that bad...

Wow, really? I thought the Pythons have at least a grasp of German. These Oxbridge boys do know how to memorize, I mean, remembering lines are hard enough but to memorize them in another language; hats off to them.
