well, to quote from the review:

Quote:
This DVD is a joy! It's bits of two Secret policemen's balls (as it were!) from 1976 and 1977, featuring a few famous sketches: The 'parrot sketch', 'The last supper with the kangaroo'...the 'Lumberjack song'...'oo oo oo the funky gibbon!'

but also, glorious bits of Our Lord Peter Cook backstage (and onstage) this really is a treat...

and to think I thgought I'd seen them all!

that help?

The Secret Policeman's Ball - The Early Years DVD is a compilation of bits from 2 of the Amnesty International benefit shows - Pleasure At Her Majesty's (1976) and The Mermaid Frolics (1977). It does NOT present those two productions in their entirety so you miss some stuff.

It features (amongst other things) John Cleese and Michael Palin doing the Parrot sketch (with Michael Palin corpsing), Neil Innes doing his Protest Song, John Fortune and John Bird doing a brillian version of the song "You Say Potato", Monty Python's Court Sketch ("and on with the pixie hats") and The Goodies doing "The Funky Gibbon".

To be honest, it's okay. I personally would recommend either the Secret Policeman's Ball - The Middle Years DVD which has the 2 Secret Policemans Ball shows (better than the earlier ones).

Even better, if you're prepared to spend more (or are whizz on eBay), I strongly recommend the Secret Policeman's Ball - The Complete Edition DVD set, which has all of the benefit gigs on plus a special DVD of all the music performances in the shows (including Pete Townshend doing an acoustic version of "Won't Get Fooled Again" (now the theme tune to one of the CSI series).
