When the actors spoke russian, was it really russian? Or just some sorta gobbledygook?

For example,
Dostoievye useye tovarich trotsky borodina (etc.)

General Beluntanks dretsky mihai ovna isky Mr Reg Pither.

Pandemonium lasting for about ten seconds.
General Shi muska di scensand dravenka oblomov Engleska Solzhenitzhin.

('Russian 42nd International Clambake'), Episode Thirty-four: The Cycling Tour

I am Russian, I have seen this sketch and can say that there are some real Russian words there (not much, actually) . The poem which Cleese was declaming in Fish called Wanda, btw, was really Russian and John`s pronunciation is (unexpectedly) very good indeed

So the Russian is just as Russian, as the German joke is German: sounds like but not really.
