Hi dear Everybody,

I also put this post to John Cleese's and Michael Palin's Forum. And also to other Python-related ones. 2009 is the year of the 40th anniversary of the Monty Python, and of course the 70th birthday of John. The Pythons often say that they had never been created perhaps, if there wasn't Spike Milligan (who would have been 90-y-o this year).

Spike was the writer and one of the performers (alongside Peter Sellers and Harry Secombe) of The Goon Show, which was extremely popular in the 50's and 60's in the UK (but also in the US). The members were in good relationship and friendship even with the Royal Family and the people adored their programmes (well, at least those, who weren't scandalised by this new kind of humour). They were mainly popular among young men, and school-children. In those years when the Pythons were school-kids, themselves. And, no wonder, the Pythons were the Show's big fans. Terry Gilliam once said he had moved to the UK because of the British humour and especially because of the Goons and Spike.

There is an idea to erect a statue for Spike and 3 of the Pythons (John, Michael and Terry Gilliam) support it, also with donating money. But if any of you would like to make a donation to the Statue Fund, you can do it, I give you more links:

http://www.finchleysociety.org.uk/actstatuefund.htm

and

http://www.spikestatue.org.uk/

So, if any of you wish to donate even just a couple of pounds, you'll be welcome! Everybody who sends money to the Fund is going to be invited when the Statue is ready, for the celebration and for the unveiling ceremony! A chance to meet the Pythons!!! And, any of you send money to the Fund, you shall mention that it is given by someone in the name of the John Cleese's/Michael Palin's/Pythonline/MP's Completely Useless Forum.

But any ideas to raise money for the Fund, are welcome! Eg, organising quiz-events or games in your local towns, publishing books, anything. Even the craziest, funniest, foolest, the most mad ideas are welcome. If you are interested, or have a good idea, don't hesitate, please sign up yourself below this post to make a list (hopefully!!!).

On John Cleese's forum we started to organise things: a possible silly march. For more details, you can visit

http://cleeseblog.com/Vanilla/

with the same title.

But I'll let you know about the latest developments.

Thanks for your attention,

Best wishes,

Chris ;-)))
