Forgive the title, I'm feeling nerdy (and hearing nerdy, and seeing nerdy, and, well you get it, I'm a dweeb [which I'm proud of {forgive the many parenthesis}]).

This thread is for people who, like me, like to write stuff. Here you may post any essays, short stories, reviews, criticisms, novel excerpts, satires, and any other stuff that is included therein.

There is, however, one simply, mind-numbingly obvious rule: You have to have written it yourself.

Oh, and if you post an excerpt from an in-development (or finished, I don't really care) novel you've written, you have to explain what the story is so far unless it's the absolute beginning. The reasoning behind this is pretty obvious.

Post on, writers.

This is the first page of my novel, Havenpass, about an aging detective solving the murder of a reclusive automobile magnate. It's not a comedy, obviously.

Havenpass, New York, 1929:
The man felt sick. His forehead was drenched with a cold sweat. His fingers twitched, his eyes wandered back and forth around the street. Dizziness and disorientation consumed him. He had a vomiting fit only minutes ago; the greenish-yellow concoction that came from his stomach was laced with blood. He had been drunk before, often times collapsing on the floor of the bar, but this was different. It hurt to breathe; every breath becoming heavier and heavier until he felt as if his lungs would burst. His legs were aching, as if they were about to give out at any moment. His head ached, he felt weak. He looked cautiously at the world around him. Reality seemed to get fainter and fainter, the paved roads and buildings beginning to disappear, the sky blackening, leaving him standing, gasping for air in a pitch black, lightless place. Finally, his legs gave out, and he fell to the ground, his head colliding with the cold pavement. As he lay there, he swore he saw a wispy silhouette of a man standing adjacent to one of the alleyways. He took a last gulp of air, closed his eyes, and lay still. The man was dead.

I find it extremely annoying when people oppose gay marriage for religious or personal dislike reasons.
