None of them did. Its one of those things that people take a wild guess at and get it wrong.

Don't worry, I've been one of those situations. A couple summers ago, I was burning a bunch of Monty Python sketches and songs onto an audio CD, and for some reason, the "Lovely Bunch of Coconuts" song was listed. I thought Monty Python did the song, but I later realized that they didn't.

It predates Python by about 20 years.

Ok, then where does one find the "Lovely Bunch of Coconuts" song?

"You're like a German Parakeet."

well, the first thing to be done would be to determine who it's actually by.

You're fooling yourself.

Well it was in the 'Lion King' but I think there is some sort of conection with Spike Milligan somewhere along the line??

Here are the lyrics, I found them under 'Monty Python' so I think they must have sung it:
<i>
Down at an English fair,
One evening I was there,
When I heard a showman shouting
Underneath the flare:

Hoi've got a luvverly bunch o' coconuts.
There they are a-standin' in row.
Big ones, small ones, some as big as yer 'ead!
Give 'em a twist, a flick o' the wrist,
That's what the showman said.

Hoi've got a luvverly bunch o' coconuts.
Hevery ball yer throw will make me rich.
There stands me wife, the idol of me life,
Singin' "roll a-bowl a ball, a penny a pitch!"

Roll a-bowl a ball, a penny a pitch!
Roll a-bowl a ball, a penny a pitch!
There stands me wife, the idol of me life,
Singin' "roll a-bowl a ball, a penny a pitch!"</i>

sorry i cant be of more help... iv done a google search and i found somewhere that says you can find it on 'www.Audio Galaxy.com' but I can't find it...

danny kaye was an american performer, and he was the one who originally did the song lovely bunch of coconuts. it's probably attributed to monty python just because it's so ridiculous. if you want to know more about him, go to this website.

You're fooling yourself.

you NEVER heard of Danny Kaye???

Hans Christian Andersen?

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty???

The Inspector General?? --

In which, by the way, Danny sings this song....

You are depriving yourself of a TRUE entertainment treat and genius if you do not check out any of his movies....

Danny was a fine performer, comedian extraordinaire, and a superb orchestra leader as well.....

the song was written in 1944 by Fred Heatherton, and has been recorded by many, including Merv Griffin, ....

movies:

Up In Arms (1944),
Wonder Man (1945),
The Kid From Brooklyn (1946),
The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty (1947),
A Song Is Born (1948),
The Inspector General (1949),
On The Riviera (1951),
Hans Christian Anderson (1952),
Knock On Wood (1953),
White Christmas (1954),
Assignment Children (1954),
The Court Jester (1956),
Me And The Colonel (1957),
Merry Andrew (1958),
The Five Pennies (1959),
On The Double (1962),
The Man From The Diner's Club (1963),
The Madwoman Of Chaillot (l969).

a great link:

http://www.maurice-abravanel.com/kaye_danny.html

here is the Kaye version, but I am not sure the flash presentation is what you expect.....also, it is credited as Monty P, but in fact, is Danny Kaye -

http://z.wimp.com/a/coconuts.swf

and NOW to answer your question...THIS quoted from a rather complete (if not completely different) FAQ site for Monty Python --

Q: Which movie is "I've Got A Lovely Bunch of Coconuts" in?
A: Again, its not. The song has never appeared in any Monty Python movie.

http://www.geocities.com/fang_club/FAQ.html

it is a shame -- I would really have liked to hear the Troupe sing this song...it is certainly up thier alley and style..but then...25 years earlier..Danny Kaye was doing what THEY were most famous for...

If you don't believe me, then whatch Walter Mitty (see above) 2 or 3 times, or even the Court Jester..THEN decide...

and NO -- I am NOT putting down the troup -- Monty P. was the FUNNIEST group that ever lived...I even had the pleasure of seeing them live TWICE when I was in HS (back in the 70's)
