Been running a website for ages that is in effect one long Four Yorkshiremen sketch.

And indeed it includes the full script of the sketch itself.

But today I get a right telling off from someboday about whether Terry Gilliam took part in the sketch. the copy of the script I had clearly has Gilliam as one of the cast.

Now I go for a Google to try and gather evidence, and see a reference to the sketch being especially written for the Hollywood Bowl show.

In which case, it was Terry Jones, not Gilliam in the sketch.

Anyone know the full story? Was it just performed on the live show, or was it ever a telly skit?

Dead confused, me....

Further Googling reminds me of the "Secret Policeman's Ball version of said skit.

Starring Rowan Atkinson.

Passable - very passable.

When I saw it, it was definately Jones, not Gilliam.

Either there was another version, or the script is wrong.

Wouldn't it be harder for an American to do a Yorkshire accent? Hmmm.

Well that's what I thought - but the Gilliam fellow did get up to some unusual stuff.

Besides - there's been some wonderful comedy Brit accents by Americans. Gwyneth Paltrow in "Shakespeare In Love", Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins, Daphne Moon in "Frasier"

Apparently Daphne Moon was an extra for the "Every Sp*rm is Sacred" scene in the Meaning of Life.

Yeah, but she is actually English. She was one of the Benny Hill girls. And Dick Van Dyke, well he's Dutch as far as I know. Is this too informative for this website.

Let's hang my nipples from a tree.

Anyway, not saying that American's can't do english accents, but if there were 5 Englishmen and 1 American it would be smarter to use 4 of the englishmen to get english accents.

Anyway, on the Hollywood Bowl it was definately Jones, Palin, Chapman & Idle.

It was. But they were performing it on live shows before that.
Live at Drury Lane album, but I would qagain say that it was Jones.
Perhaps they swapped for other performances that they did, maybe on their original tour of America.
MY THIS COULD BE INTERESTING
